Billy Hoover Fleming

Billy Hoover Fleming, 89 years of age, widower and beloved fishing buddy of Elizabeth Merriman Johnson Fleming, of Yemassee, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, June 23, 2018 at the Ridgeland Nursing & Rehab Center while under the care of Tidewater Hospice. Born in Ridgeland on June 24, 1928, a son of the late Charles P. and Nora Purvis Fleming, Billy spent the greater part of his lifetime in the South Carolina Lowcountry, working hard and loving his family and friends, his birds, his garden and his fishing adventures. He was a Christian and served in the United States Army. He worked for many years as a farmer and as the owner of Ridgeland Amoco Station. He was a member of Tillman Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, whose care he provided for many years, his wife and infant son, Mr. Fleming was predeceased by brothers Lemuel Burdett Fleming, Troy Fleming, Vernon (Buster) Fleming, Harold Fleming, Robert Fleming, Charles P. Fleming, and Pinckney Ryan Fleming and sisters Vivian (Tink) Fleming Durrance, Geneva Fleming Mock, Juanita Fleming Doboaz, Elleanora Fleming Williams and unnamed twins. Survivors include a step-daughter, nieces and nephews and a host of soul-mates. The family will receive friends at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 West Adams Street, Ridgeland, South Carolina 29936 beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2018. Graveside burial will follow at Ridgeland Cemetery. Billy’s family extends its deepest gratitude to the personnel of Ridgeland Nursing & Rehab Center and Tidewater Hospice for the exceptional and tender care they provided him.
