Bud Alonzo Ledbetter

February 9, 1916 — March 27, 2013

Lieutenant Commander Bud A. Ledbetter (ret) went to join his Lord and Savior on March 27, 2013 at the age of 97. He died peacefully at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Steve and Lori Crabtree after a long fight with Renal disease. Bud was married for almost 65 years to his beautiful Helen Kolesar who preceded him in death in May of 2008. Family services will be held when his cremains are spread at the same spot on the Pacific Ocean where her's were. Bud retired from the Navy after 22 years in which his Aircraft Carrier Wasp CV7 was sunk in the Battle of Guadalcanal in 1943. He was credited with saving the life of one of his shipmates during the six hours they were in the water. They first came to San Diego in 1944 on change of duty. After his retirement, and because of their love of Point Loma and sailing, the two settled there in 1960. Bud was an avid sailor and a member of the Silvergate Yacht Club. Bud came to visit his family in Sun City Hilton Head, South Carolina in November of 2008 and remained there with his daughter and her husband due to his health problems. Bud loved the Lord and was a member of the First Baptist Church Bluffton. Bud is survived by his son-in-law and daughter, his son Budd and wife Lola of Maui, Hawaii, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to: Hospice Care of the Low Country, PO Box 3827, Bluffton, SC 29910.
