Cara Mia Newcomb, a beloved mother, sister, daughter and friend, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2024, in Bluffton, South Carolina after a brave battle with cancer.
Cara was born on March 27, 1962, in New Britain, Connecticut. Cara exuded warmth, kindness, and love in every interaction and conversation she had. She was a devoted mother, a sweet daughter, a loving sister, and a loyal friend. She found passion in art, interior design, reading, and travel. Her beautiful paintings will carry on her legacy in the homes of those she loved most.
Cara’s love for her family was unparalleled. Cara is survived by her children, Sarah Neff and Geoffrey Newcomb, who were the joys of her life. She also leaves behind her mother, Hilda Hartunian, and sisters, Karen Marchak, Lisa Campbell, and Sherri Sutera. She was preceded in death by her father, Richard Hartunian, and brother, Ricky Hartunian.
Cara’s passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her love for those around her, her sweet laugh, and her ability to make everyone feel cherished will be incredibly missed but never forgotten.
As we say goodbye to Cara Mia Newcomb, we celebrate a beautiful life. Cara’s memory will be treasured forever, as we hold her close in our hearts and remember the light she brought into this world and our lives.
A private family remembrance will be held at a later date and there will be no calling hours planned. Because we received great care for Cara from Friends of Caroline and from Dr. Winer, Director of Yale Cancer Center, we request that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Cara’s name to:
Friends of Caroline (https://www.fochospice.org/) Caroline’s Cottage was the hospice home where Cara spent her final days. It is a beautiful and welcoming space where Cara and her family were treated with such care and kindness.
BreastFriendsFund.org (https://breastfriendsfund.org/) 100% of donations fund metastatic breast cancer research led by Dr. Eric Winer at Yale. Dr. Winer, an expert in metastatic breast cancer, consulted on Cara’s care and always offered her hope and treated her with great kindness as a patient.
