Carey A. Clark, Jr., known as Buddy, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025. Born in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Buddy lived a life full of curiosity, love, and creativity. Over the years, he called many places home, including Silver Spring, MD; Nashville, TN; Atlanta, GA; and most recently, Port Royal, SC.
A proud graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Buddy played basketball for UNC and cherished his time there. It was at Chapel Hill that he met Carolyn, the love of his life and wife of 57 years. Together, they built a beautiful life and shared countless adventures until her passing nine years ago. Buddy honored her memory by writing and publishing a heartfelt memoir about their life together.
Buddy’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. He loved learning, dancing, and writing—often crafting haiku poems that reflected his thoughtful nature. In his younger years, he was an avid basketball player, and later, he and Carolyn ran a jewelry store in Atlanta, blending business with creativity. He also served in the Army Reserves, exemplifying his sense of duty and commitment.
Buddy is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Cahill), and her husband, Louis; his son, Carey III, and his wife, Karen; his beloved grandchildren, Carey IV, Cameron, and Caitlyn; and many friends who will remember his warmth, humor, and zest for life.
A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held on December 20, 3 pm, at Carteret United Methodist Church in Beaufort. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor his memory by sharing a poem, a dance, or a moment of learning—things Buddy loved most.
