Carl D. Wagner

Carl D. Wagner, 87, of Rome, GA, died Thursday, November 21, 2013 in Bluffton, SC where he had resided for the past year and half. Mr. Wagner was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jacquelyn Roberts Wagner, a brother, Warren Wagner, and sister, Norma Wagner. Mr. Wagner was born in Durham, NC on November 15, 1926, the son of the late John Wagner and Lucy Baxley Miller. He worked for many years as an independent insurance adjuster in Rome, GA and was a longtime active member of Garden Lakes Baptist Church. He was a veteran of the Navy. He is remembered as a caring, fun-loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He had a great love for life and serving others. He is survived by his daughters, Denise Sweeney and husband Jack of Hilton Head Island, SC and Carol Payne Loftus and husband Rich of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Christy Bacon and husband, Brian; Jennifer Syno and husband, Matt; Rachel Loftus, and Rebekah Loftus; great-grandchildren, Connor Bacon, Bryson Bacon, Braedon Syno and Ashlynn Bacon. A private celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, November 30, 2013 on Hilton Head Island. As it was his wishes to be cremated, an inurnment will be held at a later date at Raleigh Memorial Cemetery where he will be laid to rest with his loving wife. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2090 Executive Hall Road, Suite 130, Charleston, SC 29407 in honor of his son-in-law, Jack Sweeney.
