Carol Christensen Thomas

Carol Christensen Thomas, 82 passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2011 at NHC Healthcare Bluffton.She was born in Detroit, Michigan, August 5, 1928, daughter of Frederick and Lucille Christensen.She graduated with degrees in education from Wayne State University and the University of Michigan. She taught elementary grades in Detroit Public Schools until elected to the position of Executive Vice President of the Detroit Federation of Teachers in 1978 where she served until 1996. She was very active in improving and promoting education in public schools in Detroit and also the State of Michigan. Some of her educational efforts resulted in appointment to the Michigan State Board of Education
