Carol Tyler

February 16, 1946 — May 16, 2017

Carol Parsons Tyler, born in Boston, MA seventy one years ago, died peacefully May 16, 2017 after a long illness. Her parents were Charles and Mary (Greeley) Parsons. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved brother Charles (Chip). Carol believes in God and was looking forward to joining her family and others who preceded her in death. Carol spent her life focused on the care of others. She was a registered nurse working in the field of perioperative nursing. She was active in her professional organization, the Association of periOperative Registered Nurses (AORN). Carol particularly focused on providing certification standards and status for nurses in an operating room environment and raising the standard of healthcare in perioperative settings. Furthering these interests, Carol served on committees, the executive board (Vice President) and Golden Gavel within AORN. She worked in the perioperative field in both hospitals and the medical industry for nearly 50 years. Carol and her husband, Robert (Bob), moved to Bluffton in 2001. Upon arriving in Bluffton, Carol joined the fabric of the Belfair community; playing golf, participating in recreational clubs and groups and enjoying the beautiful low country environment with her friends and neighbors. She even participated in building two houses for the Habitat for Humanity neighborhood in Bluffton. For many years she provided nursing assistance to Volunteers in Medicine (VIM) and volunteered as the school nurse at St Gregory the Great grade school. She also volunteered with the Players Amateur, a golf tournament for international amateur golfers hosted at the time by Belfair Plantation, and welcomed many young Australian golfers into their home to stay during the tournament over the years. Carol and Bob were married in June, 1968 and began life together in Evanston, Illinois. Before long she moved to Texas to be with and support Bob while he served in the Army. In a couple years, they returned to the Chicago area where they continue to maintain a home. The couple enjoyed traveling and experiencing the history and culture of many environments around the world. While visiting Australia one year, they reunited with some of the golfers they hosted previously during the Players Amateur golf tournament. Carol delighted in the fact that they all had become professional golfers and she followed their careers around the world. Carol is survived by her husband, Bob, four sisters, Lee Parsons Schramm (Don), Gail Parsons, Jan Parsons (Tom) and Faith Parsons Schoenherr (Greg),sister-in-law Patti Parsons, brother-in-law William Tyler (Judith) and sister-in-law Barbara Tyler Cicone (Robert), eight nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Carol loved life and everything it offered. She was a fun, caring, outgoing person who could light up a room. She loved people and was interested in how she could make their lives better, easier, more interesting or more fulfilling. She devoted many hours in the pursuit of these interests and was successful in every way. She will be missed by all who knew her.
