Carolyn Lorraine Neamand, 71, of Sun City, S.C. passed away on March 25th after developing pneumonia. She passed away peacefully surrounded by her husband Allan and their three children. Carolyn was a pillar of strength despite suffering from several afflictions over many years. Never one to complain, she always said that she was in the Lord's hands and trusted whatever was to come.
Carolyn was born in Roanoke, Va. on July 5th, 1951, to parents James and Ruth Brizendine. She was the oldest of six children. She is survived by three sisters and one brother: Sharon Wertz, Teresa Strobel, Stacey Shaver, and Thomas Brizendine.
Carolyn and Allan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past October. Together they have three children, Lt. Cmdr. Kari Neamand-Cheney, Tanis Neamand, and Aaron Neamand. She adored her two grandsons, Gavin and Ryan, and loved her grandmom nickname “Gigi”.
Carolyn went through life accumulating an endless list of friends that adored her beautiful smile, infectious laugh, and her endearing gift of having a kind ear. She had a large list of friends that adopted her as a sister, second mom, or grandmother.
Carolyn attended Radford College in Va. and after her sophomore year she took a waitressing job at an ocean front hotel in Virginia Beach. It was that summer she met her lifetime love Allan who was finishing his enlistment in the Navy. The chance meeting blossomed into a summer romance that has endured for over fifty years.
Carol and Allan’s journey started in Beverly, N.J., several years later they settled in Langhorne, Pa. and raised their family for over thirty years. Carol devoted her life to being a stay-at-home mom. She was an avid reader, loving both romances and mysteries, and cherished the family vacations at the beach. But most of all she loved her role of being a devoted wife, mom, and grandmom. Carol eventually became involved with her church’s pre-school where she taught classes and eventually became the school director.
Carol and Allan retired to Sun City, S.C. in 2014. Carol fell in love with the low country and her new residence in Sun City. She quickly made friends and relationships as she had done over her entire life. She enjoyed playing Mahjong and Canasta with many of her closest friends every week. When in need, her friends could always find her reading on the lanai with the family dog (Elektra) laying by her side. Her friends and family enjoyed hearing all her stories and listening to her infectious laugh.
A celebration of her life will be planned in Sun City in the near future. Her family greatly appreciates the outpouring of love and support from all her friends and relatives.
