Catherine B. Kennedy

Catherine B. Kennedy, 84, of Ridgeland, SC passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026 at Coastal Carolina Hospital in Hardeeville, SC.

Catherine was born August 6, 1941 in Illinois to the late Mario Tornillo and Helen Platt Tornillo. She spent her career as a registered nurse, caring for her patients with compassion and dedication. She was married to her loving husband, Bernard Kennedy, for 33 years, until his passing in 2023. Catherine enjoyed reading, cooking, and traveling. She also found joy in her sewing, making much of the clothing her children wore growing up. She also had a passion for animals and especially loved her pets.

Catherine is survived by her son, David Balla of Chipley, FL; daughter, Julia Taylor (Joseph) of Ridgeland; step-son, Brian Ortiz (Alex) of Bluffton, SC; step-daughter, Katrina Kennedy Light of Beaufort, SC; and five grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, July 9, 2026 at Sauls Funeral Home, 310 W. Adams St., Ridgeland.
