Catherine Kruger

Catherine Kruger, 80, of Bluffton, SC died Monday, March 24, 2014. Ms. Kruger was born in Manhattan, NY on March 22, 1934, the daughter of the late Carl and Emma Hilgers. In the 1950's, in N.Y. City, she was the first woman to be hired as a manager for the White Castle restaurant chain. In the early 1980's through 2001, she was an office manager for Studley Ocular Laboratories in Bedford N.H. For the past 10 years, she was active working for the Beaufort County Board of Elections. Catherine was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Kruger and her grandson, Jason Hoffman. She is survived by her sons, Edward Kruger (Ann) and John Kruger (Elizabeth); step-daughters, Carol Kruger (John Beam) and Suzanne Foxx (Greg); sister, Irene Johnson; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hilgers; grandchildren, Alyson, Taylor, Bradley, Jessica, Katherine (Ian), Matthew, and Kira; and great-grandchildren, Samantha, Abigail, and Robert. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675 or the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
