Catherine Senatore

Catherine “Cathy” Senatore, 69, passed away peacefully and embraced by family in Bluffton, South Carolina, on August 25, 2026, after a brave battle against aggressive lung cancer and other significant setbacks to her health.

Cathy was born on May 19, 1957, in Queens, New York, to Dominick and Margherita Senatore. She was raised in West Islip with her three siblings until her teenage years, when their parents won a lottery prize that enabled them to put down roots in Mattituck, New York. It was in her junior year of high school there that Cathy met her high school sweetheart, whom she would later marry. Cathy thrived in her new surroundings, being voted Most Popular, Most Attractive, Best Sport, and Easiest to Get Along With, and winning the title of Prom Queen.

When her children were older, Cathy made the move to Florida’s west coast, where she began a trajectory that led to a successful career as an insurance agent in the Bradenton-Sarasota area. Cathy eventually moved to Bluffton in 2022 to retire and be closer to her grandchildren.

Her children and grandchildren were her world. Cathy had a childlike spirit when it came to her grandchildren, and there was no greater joy for her than being with them. Her grandchildren, Lucas Jordan and Theodore Jack, brought her an extraordinary sense of purpose and joy, and she treasured every moment she had with them.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Dominick and Margherita Senatore; her brother, Joe Senatore; and her former husband, John DiVello. She is survived by her children, Tina Bowers (Eric) of Raleigh, North Carolina; Angela DiVello (Gerard) of Bluffton, South Carolina; and John DiVello of Greenville, South Carolina; her sister, Anna Luce of Flanders, New York, her brother, James of Fountain Hills, Arizona; and her beloved grandchildren, Lucas Jordan Creed and Theodore Jack Creed, both of Bluffton, South Carolina.

Cathy will be remembered for her warmth, her sense of humor and easy and infectious laugh, her deep love of family, and the strength with which she faced adversity. She met her illness with the same resilience she brought to everything else, never wavering in her devotion to the people she loved.

Following a private family viewing, Cathy will be cremated and her ashes returned to her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Cathy’s memory to the American Stroke Foundation or the LUNGevity Foundation.
