Celva “Sam” Horton, 65, of Rose of Sharon Apartments, Savannah, GA, daughter of Vi Horton and Les Horton (deceased) passed away unexpectedly in her home December 19th, 2017.
Ms. Horton attended Columbia High School, Columbia, SC and graduated from the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She began her professional career as a sound engineer for the The Allman Brothers Band, later working in television and The Carolina Opry.
An accomplished storyteller, musician, singer, sailor, photographer, broadcast engineer, and actress, Ms. Horton played viola with the Myrtle Beach Long Bay Symphony and performed with various theater groups in New England and the Carolinas, including the professional Equity theater, Flat Rock Play House.
In later years, Ms. Horton enjoyed performing improv and stand up in Savannah, notably in her solo comedy performance as ‘Betty the Blues Babe.’
Among her friends, Ms. Horton was known for her intelligence and creativity. Her passion for gardening and her generous spirit brightened the lives of all who knew her. Ms. Horton is predeceased by her father Les Horton, sister Leslie Horton and son Greg Horton. She is survived by her mother Vi Horton, brothers Ed and Gary, daughter Anita and grandson Elijah Grey Rameriz.

Memorial service will be held at Laural Baptist Church, 2250 Pine Street, West Columbia, SC 29170, Saturday, December 30th, 2017 at 11am. Family visitation will be held following the service.
