Charles Edwin Smith

Charles Edwin Smith, known to family and friends as Ed or Eddie, passed away on October 1, 2026, at the age of 66.

Born on October 4, 1959, to Calvin Rufus Smith and Arabelle West, Ed was born and raised in Florida. He lived in Illinois for a time before later making his home in Hilton Head.

Ed loved the beach, fishing, mudding, and playing recreational softball. He also enjoyed spending time in the garage tinkering with his tools.

He is survived by his mother, Arabelle West; his brother, Steve Smith; and his four children: Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Ashley; Kyle Smith and his wife, Erin; Shana Cucinella and her husband, Tony; and Emily Baca and her husband, Layne. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Marianna, Giuseppe, Wyman, Tyler, Lily, Vivianna, and Kayden.

He was preceded in death by his father, Calvin Rufus Smith, and his sister, Gloria Taylor.

There will be no public services. The family may gather privately at a later date.
