Charles Emerson Hess, Sr.

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Charles Emerson Hess, Sr., on April 26, 2023 in Bluffton, SC at the age of 92.  He was under Hospice care at NHC.

Charles was born on December 11, 1930 in Baltimore, MD.  He was preceded in death by his beloved father William Hess, son Charles Hess Jr., and 6 brothers and sisters.  He is survived by his loving wife Marlene, son Barry (Wendy) Hess, 5 grandchildren, Charles “Bucky” (Kelly) Hess, III, Brandy (Ivan) Ortega, Bradd Hess, Brianna (Ian) Diaz, Brentin (Mackenzie) Hess, 10 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, stepchildren Bobby (Elaine) Evans, Lori (Ron) Skrutski, and Patti (Ralph) Cribbs along with 4 step grandchildren and 9 step great grandchildren.

Chuck retired from a successful career with GM in Baltimore, MD where many of his designs and fabrications were implemented earning him numerous awards.  He and Marlene moved to Bluffton, SC where he was blessed with many friends. Golf was his favorite hobby even once shooting a hole in one. He will be greatly missed by his loving family.

Viewing will be held on Thursday May 4, 223 at Borgwardt Funeral Home, 4400 Powder Mill Rd, Beltsville, MD 20705 from 10:00-11:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am in the chapel.  Burial immediately following at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD.
