Charles “Charlie” McManus, 85, of Bluffton, SC died Friday, March 11, 2016 at Bloom of Bluffton. Mr. McManus was born on January 28, 1931 in Savannah, GA, the son of the late Charles Lee McManus and Ella Lee Burroughs McManus. He was a graduate of Benedictine Military School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, stationed at Fort Bragg, Germany, and Panama as well as serving two tours in Vietnam. He served with the 82nd Airborne Division, acting in Intelligence and Special Forces. He retired after 21 years of service as a Chief Warrant Officer Two. Following his military tenure, he continued his formal education at Armstrong State College where he earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in United States History. He taught for many years at Windsor Forest High School. Charlie was an avid sports fan, particularly Georgia Tech, the Atlanta Braves and the Falcons. Mr. McManus was preceded in death by his daughter, Sherry McManus. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Scott (Glenn) of Ridgeland, SC; sons, Chuck McManus (Heidi) of Hardeeville, SC and Joe McManus (Lynn) of Bluffton, SC; brother, Van McManus of Claxton, GA; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 1 great great-grandchild. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910. The family will be receiving friends from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Lowcountry Presbyterian Church, 10 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
