Charles Henry Sutler, Jr. went home to be with his Lord surrounded by his family and friends at home in Ridgeland, SC on July 25, 2013.
Charles was born on September 30, 1936 in Charleston, S.C. He was the son of the late Charles Henry Sutler, Sr. and Lillian Keetley Sutler. He was a retired truck driver, motorcycle enthusiast, an avid fisherman, former shrimp boat captain and sailor.
He was happiest being outdoors and in our local waters catching and cooking seafood for family and friends. He was raised in the Chelsea and Chechessee communities where he spent many happy days.
He was known by "Charles", "Charlie", "C.H.", "C", "Sut", "Sandlapper" and "Dipper" but to his family he was known as "Flossie", a term of endearment given to him by his devoted, surviving wife of 58 years, Joyce Rushing Sutler. He is also survived by a younger brother, E. Parker (Mildred) Sutler of Chechessee community and children: Debra Hale of Ridgeland; Donna (Donnie) Smith of Bluffton and Charles "Chip" R. (Phyllis) Sutler of Tillman. He was the proud grandfather of Ben Daughtry, Okatie; Jennifer Smith (Chris) Collins of Bluffton; Scott (B.J.) Smith, also of Bluffton; Charles "Chad" (Erynn) Sutler and Howard Craig, all of Ridgeland; Latisha (Dillon) Foote, Tabitha Morris and Emily Morris, all of Tillman; eight great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews as well as special brother in law, Pinky (Julia) Rushing of Ridgeland and sister in law, Shelby J. Green of Charleston.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 27, 2013 at Great Swamp Baptist Church in Ridgeland. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until the hour of service at the church.
