Cheryl Hechmer
July 2, 1956 – July 19, 2025
It is with broken hearts and deep love that we announce the passing of Cheryl Hechmer, 69, of South Carolina, who left this world on July 19, 2025. Born on July 2, 1956, in Pennsylvania, Cheryl was the kind of person who made the world brighter just by being in it. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Chmielewski and Joanne Fraley, and by several cherished aunts and uncles who helped shape the kind, generous woman she became. Cheryl’s greatest joy in life was her family. She is survived by her loving children: Jennifer (Chmielewski) Josey, Amanda Hechmer, and Patrick Hechmer; and by her grandsons, Blake and Aiden Josey, who adored her as their sweet, devoted “Mimi.” She also leaves behind her brothers, Keith Fraley (Sharon) and John Fraley (Kelly), along with her beloved Aunt Shirley Lewandowsi, cousins, nieces, nephews, and so many others who felt the comfort of her love. In 1998, Cheryl moved from New Jersey to South Carolina with her children, beginning a new chapter built on strength, courage, and unconditional love. Her creative soul and passion for crafting brought joy not only to her but to all who received her handmade gifts. Whether she was listening to country music, cheering on her Clemson Tigers, or simply spending time with her family, Cheryl lived with her heart wide open. She loved fiercely—with everything she had. Her children, grandchildren, and even her grand-fur babies were the center of her world. Her kindness was constant, her door always open, her hugs healing, and her laughter unforgettable. Cheryl gave so much of herself to others, never expecting anything in return. She was, in every way, love in human form. Cheryl’s absence leaves a quiet space that words cannot fill, but her love will live on—in the lives she touched, the memories she made, and the hearts she leaves behind. A memorial service will be held at Sauls Funeral Home in Bluffton, SC. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with the service beginning at 11:00 a.m., as we celebrate Cheryl’s beautiful life and the deep love she gave so freely.
“To know her was to love her. And to be loved by her was one of life’s greatest blessings.”
