Claire B. Young

Claire B. Young, age 90, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Andover, MA and Rye, NH died peacefully Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Hilton Head Hospital. Mrs. Young was born on September 19, 1926 in Rutherford, NJ, the daughter of the late August P. Berg and Grace E. Lyons Berg. Claire attended Fairleigh Dickinson College. She worked as a realtor for 30 years, but more importantly was a loving wife and mother to her family. She enjoyed her time as a ski instructor, was an avid golfer, enjoyed horseback riding, shag dancing, karaoke, and traveled extensively during her life, most recently with the Sun City Cruisers in Bluffton. She treasured all her friends and loved them dearly. Mrs. Young was preceded in death by her loving husband of 63 years, John C. (Jack) Young. She is survived by her son, J. Scott Young of Anchorage, AK; daughter, Elizabeth P. Bartley (James T.) of Rye, NH; and grandchildren, Connor John Young, Meghan Welsh (Shawn), Abigail, Trevor, Brendan and Sarah Bartley, and beloved companion Charlie Daugherty. A funeral mass will take place at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 Saint Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909. The family will be receiving friends one hour prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Maranatha Farm, 342 Crabapple Lane, Ridgeland, SC 29936 or to St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church.
