C. Dudley Lowden, loving husband, father, friend, musician and teacher, passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at his home in Sun City, SC. He was born in Ocean City, NJ on August 5, 1925, the son of the late Clinton Dudley and Ruth France Lowden, brother to the late composer Robert. Dud began playing the trombone at age 8, receiving formal training at the Julius Hartt College of Music in Hartford, CT,and his Masters from Temple University. His career as a professional musician spanned seven decades, and included some of the great names of music such as Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Buddy Rich and Kenny Rogers. He was the former Director of Bands at Villanova University, and music teacher in the Cherry Hill, NJ area school district for 25 years. A US Army veteran of World War II assigned to Army and Air Force Bands playing throughout Europe, he was a member of the Sun City Veterans Association. Dud is survived by his wife of 57 years, Edna Deetz Lowden of Bluffton; three sons, Chuck David (Sharon) Salomon-Lowden of Ventnor, NJ, Scott William (Sue) Lowden of Orange Park, FL, Daniel James (Melina) Lowden of Austin, TX; one daughter, Nancy Beth (Andrew) Lowden-Norman of Port Orange, FL, and eight grandchildren. Services will be held on Sunday, October 16 at 2 PM at the Bluffton United Methodist Church, SC.
