Bluffton

Courtney E. Doucette, Sr, 81, of Bluffton, SC passed away on Monday, July 22, 2024, in Hilton Head South Carolina. He was born on April 8, 1943, to the parents of Edward and Alva Doucette in Hartford, CT and raised in Manchester, CT.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward “Duke” and Alva Doucette and by his brother Edward “Joe” Doucette. Ed was the husband of Donna Doucette. He leaves behind his wife of 23 years, Joan Mangen Doucette, his son Courtney Doucette, Jr, his daughter Debbie Summers and her husband Scott and stepson Michael Molchan. He also leaves behind his siblings Pam Scripps and husband Steve, Cindy Veronesi and husband “Topher”, Brenda Doucette and her longtime companion John Ruzzo.

Courtney also leaves behind the light of his life, his two beautiful grandchildren Alissa and Ashlei Summers, whom he cherished and loved so very much. His love and dedication to his children, and especially his grandchildren, were very apparent in all that he did. He was a proud father and “Papa Courtney.” He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and his beloved dog Finn.

Courtney worked his entire career for Capital Tire in East Hartford, CT which later became Goodyear Tire, where he made many lifelong friends, like Howard Ballot. He worked for the company until retirement in 2004 when he moved to Hilton Head, SC to fulfill his dream of living in Sun City and playing golf nearly every day.

Prior to moving to South Carolina while living in Connecticut he enjoyed spending summer vacations with his family in Cape Cod. In the winter he enjoyed snowmobiling in New Hampshire with his friends and family. Anyone who knew Courtney knows he was an avid boater navigating the Connecticut River, visiting numerous destinations like Block Island and New Jersey on the “Courtship.” He loved a good time and living life to the fullest. Often called by his nickname “Court the Sport”.

Anyone who met and knew Courtney instantly became friends with him as he had a very outgoing and magnetic personality. While retired in SC, he took up the hobby of driving Uber, which was more of a “social” event than a means to earn a little extra money.

He will be missed dearly by his family and all that knew him.

A celebration of Courtney’s life will be held at a later date and location.
