Cynthia (Cindi) Bevan Johnson
August 15, 1957 – February 9, 2026
Cynthia (Cindi) Bevan Johnson passed away peacefully at her home in Williston, SC, on February 9, 2026. Born in Waynesboro, GA, on August 15, 1957, she was the youngest child and only daughter of Frederick Edward Bevan Jr. and Rosemary Kennedy Bevan.
In 1960, Cindi moved with her family to Davant Plantation in Gillisonville, SC, a place that would shape the next 40 years of her life. It was here that she developed a deep, lifelong passion for horses and bird dogs. Whether she was in the barn or the kennels, Cindi was most at home in the company of animals. These early years were also marked by adventurous summers in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. She cherished those seasons spent on the Canadian prairies, traveling with her family as her father hauled bird dogs north for training.
A 1975 graduate of Thomas Heyward Academy, Cindi excelled in Literature, Chemistry, and English. Her talent for words earned her a role as Co-Editor of the school newspaper, "Rebel Talk," and she was honored as a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Students. She continued her education at Spartanburg Methodist College.
Her professional life reflected her love for the Lowcountry. In the 1980s, she worked at the Hilton Head Island Airport, and in the 1990s, she served as a barn manager for a resident at Brays Island Plantation. In 2004, she moved to Creek Plantation, where she worked as an office manager until her early retirement.
Throughout her life, Cindi’s greatest joy was her family. From 1984 to 2001, she was married to Kim Tuttle, with whom she shared two children, Gillian and Paul. She cherished time spent with her family, whether she was participating in Boy Scouts of America activities with her son or horseback riding with her daughter. In 2004, she remarried to Raymond Edward Johnson, and together they shared many years at Creek Plantation, where she found happiness gathering cattle on horseback and riding many trails. In her later years, she found peace in the simple pleasures of reading, being outdoors, and caring for her beloved dogs (Midge, Jamie, and Zena) and horse (Missy).
From the kennels of Davant Plantation to the pastures of Creek Plantation, Cindi Bevan Johnson lived a life defined by the beauty of the South Carolina landscape. Her legacy lives on in them, the children she raised with devotion, and the quiet trails she rode. She leaves behind a family who will forever remember her love of literature and the joy she found in the simple company of her family, horses, and dogs.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, William Frederick Bevan and David Mathis Bevan.
Cindi leaves behind her husband, Raymond Edward Johnson; her daughter, Gillian Tuttle Courtney (Christopher Courtney) and grandson, Clay Huston Courtney; her son, Paul Davant Tuttle (Claudia Tuttle); and her stepdaughter, Brooke Johnson Newman (Travis Newman). She is also survived by her nephews, Patrick Edward Bevan and Christian Frederick Bevan, as well as several great-nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held at Gillisonville Baptist Church on Saturday, March 7th at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her honor to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
