Daniel Lee Covin, lovingly known as Dan, Danny, Dad, Pap, was born in Jeannette, Pennsylvania and moved to Hilton Head 41 years ago, where he built beautiful homes – and firmly believed both houses and life should be filled with faith, fun, laughter, and love. On December 21, 2025, at age 68, Dan was called home unexpectedly to be with the Lord. His family finds peace knowing he is now with our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Dan is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandy Covin, his high school sweetheart, best friend, and timeless, forever love; his daughters, Jessica Covin of Bluffton, South Carolina and Shawna Covin of Arizona; his grandchildren, Isiac Waszo, Christina Lettie Hermann, and Alessandrina Bay Unik; his sister, Diane Mikach (John); his brother Terry Covin (Montana) and nephew Jesse Covin of Bozeman, Montana; his mother-in-law Bernadine McGowan of Levelgreen, PA, sisters-in-law Darlene Hermann (Joe) of Levelgreen, PA, and Denice Cora (Ed) of Santa Maria, California, plus many other nieces, nephews and friends along with his beloved birthday-twin puppy companions, Tristan and Maverick. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Vivian Covin; his nephew, Matthew Covin; and his loyal dog, Rocky.
Dan believed in two things above all: loving deeply and living with passion and integrity- and he did both better than anyone who knew him. A devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, he gave his whole heart to everything he did. He worked for many years as a custom home builder on Hilton Head Island and later found great joy in artistic woodworking, leaving behind beautiful pieces in galleries that reflect his creativity and soul.
A man of deep faith, Dan was an active member of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, living his faith with a strength that uplifted and inspired others.
Dan lifted others with his words, actions, and wit. He was a scrabble extraordinaire, mostly the winner playing with Sandy, and if music was playing, dance!
Dan is now in the arms of God, reunited with loved ones who went before him. He will be forever missed, deeply loved, and joyfully remembered.
A memorial mass will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday, December 26, 2025 at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Dr., Bluffton, SC.
In lieu of flowers or gifts the family requests and would be very grateful if donations in Dan’s name could be made payable to the Knights of Columbus, council 12263 serving Bluffton, SC, C/O Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 Saint Gregory Drive, Bluffton, SC 29909.
