David Joseph Durant ,71, of Bluffton SC, passed away on December 8, 2022, after a long battle with Diabetes complications.
David was born July 23, 1951, to Adelbert Durant and Ethel (Grimm) Durant in Oneida, NY. He graduated from Mohawk Valley Community College with an AAS in criminal justice.
He operated the family dairy farm for 15 years. He then worked for Norandex and became a warehouse supervisor. When the branch closed, he worked for HP Hood as a high rack operator. He retired as a night supervisor of a recycling facility in NC.
In 1975, David married Melinda (Mindy) Tiller in Constableville, NY. David and Mindy have four children, Jeffrey Durant, Bluffton SC; Jessica (Bill) Pearce, Phoenix NY; April (Arden) Haynes, Statesville NC; and Andrew Durant, Bluffton SC.
David enjoyed telling “fish” stories and playing practical jokes on everyone he met. After his first amputation he rode a cam motorcycle for several years. He enjoyed taking his dog Mandi for walks with his scooter. He loved Christmas music and would tune in to the local station that starts playing Christmas music on November 1st. His family remembers getting into their car on Thanksgiving Day and driving to a spot in town to make sure their elaborate (Griswold Style) Christmas lights could be seen from RT 26 in Vernon, NY. He enjoyed collecting trinkets or unusual items which he generally purchased from the many flea markets throughout the USA. David and Mindy are members of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church in Bluffton SC.
David was predeceased by three sisters: Mildred (Fred) Behling; Theresa (Ernie) Winton; and Helena (Peter) Petrillose. He is survived by two brothers and three sisters: Rev Thomas Durant, Whitesboro, and Paul (Colleen) Durant, Orlando; Victoria (Walt) Keeney, Blossvale; Sister Adelbert Durant, Syracuse; and Margaret Durant, Baldwinsville. He is survived by three grandchildren, two bonus grandchildren, and one great grandchild: Christian (Casey) Madsen; Bryer (Ashley) Esengard; Hunter Jeannotte; Katelyn Pearce; Ella Pearce; and Julian Jeannotte. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank Coastal Carolina for their loving care assisting David with his transition. We especially want to recognize Dr Loader and nurses Martha, Bana, and Amanda.
