Dr. David M Simpson, 89, of Bluffton South Carolina passed away on Wednesday, January 20, 2016. David died at home after a prolonged illness surrounded by loving family and his beloved golden retriever, Libby. David was born on May 9, 1926, in Pittsburgh, PA, eldest son of the late Dean D Simpson and Martha Brennen Simpson. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Dean Simpson and Paul Simpson. He is survived by his wife Carol Simpson, son David R. Simpson, daughters Ann Gilbert, Janet Simpson, and Carolyn Theriault and two stepchildren Jodi Butterworth and husband William , and Mark Leas and wife Kristin. He has four grandchildren Metta and Malcolm Gilbert, and Austin and Rachel Theriault . Also our loving sister-in law Dr. Rev. Jean Simpson and many nieces and nephews. David graduated in 1944 from Dormont High School. He Joined the Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Texas until discharged in 1946. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh Medical School in 1953. He practiced Internal Medicine in Greenville PA, retiring in 1992. He was an active musician, playing his trumpet in the Greenville Symphony, many brass quintets and, upon moving to Pittsburgh joined many musical groups. attended Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he was an Elder and was involved in three Medical Mission trips. After moving to Sun City, he joined several musical groups, including the Stardust Orchestra and the Community Band. He was an active member of Low Country Presbyterian Church, where he was a volunteer for Family Promise and a Stephen Minister, until illness kept him from attending. David's Memorial Service is planned for February 20, 2016 at 2 pm at Low Country Presbyterian Church. The family asks in that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Low Country Presbyterian Church.
