Deforest Allgood Hamilton, Jr.

DeForest Allgood Hamilton, Jr., 86, passed away in the comfort of his family and friends on Monday, August 3, 2015, at his home in Bluffton, South Carolina. DeForest was born in Evanston, Illinois in November 1928 to DeForest Sr. and Nelda Hamilton. He attended Culver Military Academy, Indiana, in the summers of 1941 and 1945, and graduated from DePaw University, Indiana, in 1950 with a B.A. in economics. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. DeForest married Nancy, of Elkhart, Indiana, in 1956. He and Nancy were happily married for 52 years. He was employed with the American Can Company as a salesman for 29 years in Chicago, Kansas City, Mo., Atlanta and Houston. He was subsequently employed with J.L. Clark, Co., in Lancaster, Pa., where he excelled in specialty can manufacturing sales. From there Dee and Nancy retired and moved to Rome, Ga., and then to Sun City in Bluffton, S.C., in 2005. DeForest's passions were loving people, making friends, and laughing with them. Along the road life he enjoyed sharing his love of freshwater fishing in Wisconsin and Colorado, "Žcoin collecting, model railroading, bird hunting, playing the piano and singing. More recently he was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution (Rome, Georgia Chapter), Sun City Hilton Head Coin Club"Ž and the Sun City Chorus. He was a devoted husband, father and friend to many. He is survived by his daughter Jane Ellen, his son DeForest III, grandchildren Lauren and Spencer and his beloved friend, Joan Craft of Bluffton. A private memorial gathering was held at the family residence. Donations in memory of DeForest may be made to the Sun City Chorus, Bluffton, S.C.
