Dennis Philip Murphy

Dennis Philip Murphy, 72 of Bluffton, SC and formerly of Huntington, MA passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2015 at Coastal Carolina Hospital, Hardeeville, SC. He was born in Greenfield, MA on September 2, 1942 to the late Philip Emmett and Helen Palin Murphy. He attended the Ludlow-Wilbraham Schools, graduating from Monson Academy. He was a tremendous athlete, winning multiple state championships in New England in Karate, and becoming elevated to the degree of black belt. He continued his formal education at Greenfield Community College, earning a degree in nursing, and ultimately earned a Master's Degree in Education from Cambridge College. He was the co-founder/owner of the Spectacle Shoppe, Inc. He developed Health Services, which was a homecare training organization for nurses. He spent many years in nursing, working as a Nursing Supervisor and Registered Nurse, practicing at Holyoke Soldiers Home, Northampton State Hospital, Charles River West, and lastly Providence Hospital, where he retired in 2008. He was well known for his love of golf, reading, and especially his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Murphy. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lovett Murphy of Bluffton; his son, Philip E. Murphy (Amanda) of Lakeville, MA; his daughters, Sarah Finley (Brandon) of Lompoc, CA and Kate Silvia (Jay) of Taunton, MA; his brothers, Barry Murphy (Cindy) of Mendon, MA and Tim Murphy (Suzanne) of Wilbraham, MA and seven grandchildren, Adelaide, Ammon, Evdin and Althea Finley, Brenna & Keira Murphy and John Silvia. Memorial services will be private. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Memorial services will be private.
