Doive (Dd) Jarmal Into

Doive J. Into, Jr., age 82, passed away July 22, 2020 at his home. DD, as he was known by his friends and family, was born December 6, 1937 in Hardeeville, SC. He was the son of the late Doive J. Into, Sr. and Ida Mae Thomas Into. He attended school in Hardeeville and drove the school bus for the public school while he was in high school. He attended Brewton-Parker Junior College and the University of South Carolina. He was a member of the National Guard. He met Helen Lassiter when he was 17, and they were married September 2, 1961. He worked for the Department of Natural Resources and then moved to a position with the Department of Probation and Parole, where he retired as Agent in Charge on December 31, 1993 after 31 years of service.  DD was a Master Mason at Hardeeville Lodge for 52 years, where he mentored many men through their degrees to become Masons, served as Worshipful Master for several years, and was the District Deputy Grand Master for 1973.  He was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star at Edgar Mole Chapter 239 in Hardeeville, SC, where he served as Worthy Patron for many years alongside his wife, Helen and daughter, Marcy. DD had exceptional mechanic skills and car set up skills that he used to help his late brother, David, win many late model races. They won the Grand American Late Model National Championship in 1984. He was the 1988 Grand American Late Model Division Mechanic of the Year. He helped many local racers throughout the years. DD then used those same skills to help his late son-in-law, Hal, while he raced late models and his grandson, Dustin, while he raced go karts. DD was a master shrimper and fisherman, as well as the captain of The Green Hornet. He loved to plant a large garden with vegetables that his wife, Helen, would can every year. DD had great “MacGyver” skills and could fix anything, a skill he was well known for.  After he retired, DD enjoyed lunch with friends at several local restaurants on a daily basis. He was a faithful member of Coosawhatchie Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Helen Lassiter Into, daughter, Marcy Into McGraw, two grandchildren, Dustin (Morgan) McGraw and Megan (Dustin Brown) McGraw, and two great-grandchildren, Greyson Huck Brown and Evie Gail Brown. DD was preceded in death by his brother, David Into, and his son-in-law, Hal McGraw.

Memorial services will be held at 10:00 am, Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Sauls Funeral Home Pavilion, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC.  The family will receive friends beginning at 9:00 am.
