Donald T. Drosky, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away suddenly at home on January 11, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born in Windber, Pennsylvania on September 21, 1937. Upon graduation from high school, Don enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving for 26 years before retiring as a Chief Master Sargent. “Chief” was a Vietnam Vet and cherished his service to his country. He was incredibly proud of all veterans and supported many veteran groups. While stationed at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, Don enrolled at Wilmington College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Sciences. Upon retirement from the military in 1981, Don continued to serve, as an educator and teacher of Air Force ROTC at Riverdale High School in Riverdale, Georgia. Chief loved his time teaching and after 16 years he retired in 1998. Early in his military career, while stationed at Peace Air Force Base in Peace, New Hampshire, Don met the lovely Carol Ann Horne from Concord. The couple married in 1958. Don and Carol moved to Sun City in Bluffton, South Carolina in 2002, where they have lived since.
Don is survived by Carol, his devoted wife of 66 years. He is also survived by four siblings, sisters Lillian and Geraldine, and brothers Bill and Thomas. He is survived by his three sons: son Dean and his children Steven and his wife Zina and their sons Dylan and Judah; and Rachel; son Mark; and son Alan and his wife Kim and their children Hayley, and Hannah and her husband Israel and their daughter Gia.
Don loved his immediate family, but his grandchildren brought him immense joy. He aspired to bring the same joy to their life that they brought to his and Carol’s. An incredible grandfather, Don was excited about his journey as great-grandfather, with his three great-grandchildren. He would have been amazing.
Don was a regular at the Sun City Fitness Center, arriving very early almost daily. He loved to bowl and he was an avid reader.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 24, 2025, from 10:00 to 11:00 am at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC. All are welcome to join the family in remembering Don’s life and sharing memories. A Military Funeral Honors service and burial of Don’s ashes will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, January 24, 2025 at Beaufort National Cemetery.
