Donald Charles Galbraith died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday 18th January, 2016 after a short struggle with a heart related illness.
Don was born and lived his early years in New York City. He spent his youth on Long Island before moving with his family to Cape Town, South Africa, where his father had taken a job. Apart from two years of high school in Malvern, PA, Don spent the rest of his teenage and college years enjoying the many benefits of life as an expat in a foreign country. In between he did sufficient work to eventually receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and later an MBA from the University of Cape Town. After marrying his British wife, Christine, in 1974 he wanted to show her the country of his birth. Don and Chris spent the next 35 years in the Valley Forge area of Pennsylvania. After a short stint as a stockbroker in Philadelphia, Don followed his passion for Porsches and other high performance cars by starting Don Galbraith Motoring in Devon, PA. He conducted a successful enterprise until selling the business in 2012. In 2014 he and Chris retired full time to Bluffton, SC so he could follow his passion for golf year round, lighting up the course with his infamous chip shot, sportsmanship and wit. Don is survived by his loving wife, Christine, his sons Scott and Paul, his sister Virginia (Ginger) and his new puppy, Don’s Elise. A memorial service will be held at St. Gregory’s Catholic Church, Bluffton at 10:30am on Friday, January 29, 2016 followed by a luncheon at Berkeley Hall.
