Donald Ross Hull

Donald Ross Hull, 84 of Beaufort, South Carolina, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 11, 2008.He was born on May 8, 1923 in Niagara Falls, New York, the son of the late Edna Louise (Swan) Hull and Bennett Ross Hull.He graduated in 1940 from La Salle High School in New York. He received a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan and a degree in Meteorology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1942, he enlisted in the Army Air Corps as a private, and served in Europe. He stayed in the reserve and was discharged as a captain in 1958. He married Margot Jean Hultzen on July 16, 1949. After 57 years of marriage, she preceded him in death in 2006. Mr. Hull worked for the Prestolite Corporation for over 20 years, achieving the position of Vice President /Director of Manufacturing. He then founded the Dynalite Corporation, a battery manufacturing company, with operations in Ohio and Michigan. He raised his family in Perrysburg, Ohio where he served on the school board and in several other volunteer positions. An enthusiastic entrepreneur, he also founded the Hull Golf Company and patented his design of single length, swing-engineered golf clubs. As an avid golfer, he was a member of several country clubs in both Ohio and Florida. He and his wife retired to the Stuart, Florida area in 1986 and moved to Bluffton, South Carolina in 2000. Don moved to Beaufort in 2007. He was active in his churches in Ohio, Florida and South Carolina. He enjoyed teaching bible studies and periodically speaking at retirement communities.He was preceded in death by a brother, James Gayton Hull.He is survived by his six children: two daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and John Kozlowski of Beaufort, South Carolina and Sharon and James Simons of Perrysburg, Ohio; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Scott and Joan (Whitney) Hull of Fort Thomas, Kentucky, Donald J. and Susan (Raab) Hull of Castle Rock, Colorado, William Hull of Louisville, Kentucky, and Robert and Debra (May) Hull of Bluffton, South Carolina; fourteen grandchildren, Jacob Kozlowski, John Kozlowski, Jr., Holly Kozlowski, Margaret Hull, Eric Hull, Andrew Simons, Camaron Simons-Young, Joshua Hull, Alison Hull, Meghan Hull, Matthew Hull, Michael Hull, Emery Hull, and Sydney Hull; two great-grandchildren; Hannah Young and Elijah Young.His life will be celebrated at a memorial service on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. Inurnment at the Beaufort National Cemetery will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Community Church, 450 Spanish Wells Road, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina 29926.
