Donald Cassel Knoll, 88, of Bluffton, SC passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on May 10, 1924, the son of the late Blanche and Harry Knoll, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. He served in the Navy's Pacific theater, on Okinawa, during WWII. He graduated from Penn State University, where he was the swim team's "iron man" distance swimmer and where he met his wife, Dulcie, to whom he was married for 63 wonderful years. He retired in 1981 after 33 years at Bethlehem Steel Corporation, in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he was senior industrial engineer. He was an avid sports fan of the Atlanta Braves and Penn State football; and competitor - playing tennis and golf, and being instrumental in starting the croquet clubs at both Port Royal Plantation and Sun City Hilton Head. He also loved travel - having toured six continents on 50 cruises with his wife. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter Janice (Scott) Cheslak of Beaufort, SC, son, Roger (Julie) Knoll of Cary, NC, grandchildren Ryan (Shelly) Cheslak and Amy Cheslak, Beaufort, SC and one great-grandchild.
