Donald "Don" Leonardi

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Donald (Don) J. Leonardi age 75 passed away in his home, September 29 in Bluffton after a battle with cancer with his wife and daughter Christine by his side. Don was born in Erie, PA and resided there until he retired to South Carolina.Don was a graduate of Tech High School in Erie, PA, after graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served in the 8th Marines, 2nd Battalion. After his discharge from the Marine Corps Don attended Behrend and Mercyhurst College where he studied Business Administration.Don built and resurfaced tennis courts under his company name of Leonardi Maintenance and he retired from Mercyhurst College where he was Materials Manager. After moving to SC he was employed by Okatie Golf Shop, Hidden Cypress Golf Shop and Hampton Hall.Don was an avid archer and held PA County and State Championship Title in competition archery. He also enjoyed trout fishing,skiing,snowmobiling and golf.He was a member of the Wolves Club and one of the founders of Presque Isle Snowmobile Club in Erie, PA.Don was a member at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church where he was an usher and a member of the Knights of Columbus Cardinal Bernadin Council 12263 where he held the office of Chancellor, Warden,Deputy Grand Knight and Grand Knight for a short time.He was instrumental in acquiring donations for Lowcountry Wounded Warriors golf tournament held at Hampton Hall,he was also a volunteer for Special Olympic Events and was on the Sun City softball team.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sons Michael Leonardi and Bradley S. Leonardi.He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years Barbara (Tomasik) Leonardi, children Alice (Leonardi) Mazzuca and her husband Fred Mazzuca of Denver Colorado, Christine (Leonardi) Fill and her husband Richard Fill of Waterford,PA. brother Fred Leonardi,sister Judi (Leonardi) Vona, brother in law Jack Tomasik all of Erie,PA, grandchildren,Danielle Leonardi, Richard Leonardi both of Wisconsin,Andrea(Mazzuca) Allen and Vince Mazzuca of Denver Colorado,Brad M. Leonardi of Daytona Beach Florida, great grandchildren Aneiah Leonardi, Eli(Leonardi) Fry both of Wisconsin, Makayla Allen of Denver Colorado. Nephews and nieces Ron Ross of Texas,Fred Leonardi Jr. also of Texas,Buddy Leonardi of North Carolina,Lisa DeLuca,Heather Liepic,Marc Tomasik and BJ (Leonardi) Waide all of Erie, PA.A mass will be celebrated at Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church 333 Fording Island Road, Bluffton at 11:00 am, Friday, October 5,2012. The family will receive guests beginning at 10:00 am at the church prior to mass.
