Donald J. Taddie

Donald Joseph Taddie, 79, of Bluffton, SC passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Coastal Carolina Hospital.

Don was born March 28, 1947 in Niagara Falls, NY to the late Joseph Taddie and Esther Ross Taddie. After high school, Don graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from State University of New York at Fredonia and then proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Don then became part-owner of Waterworks Restaurant in Niagara Falls, while also continuing a rewarding career in social work.

Don was a well-rounded man, who enjoyed many different interests! He loved sailboat racing and was an avid golfer of the Lowcountry fairways. A black belt, he instructed new students in the art of karate. He also served as a ski instructor, was a member of a swim team, the founder of several volleyball clubs in New York State, and played racquetball until the very end of his life. There wasn’t a sport that Don didn’t play!

Don was a devoted family man. He leaves behind his loving wife of 28 years, Diane Taddie; step-sons, William Karijanian of Bluffton, Michael Karijanian of San Diego, CA, and Bryan Karijanian of Nashville, TN; step-daughter, Kimberly Karijanian of Bluffton; a granddaughter he absolutely adored, Sayda Karijanian; and his four-legged best friend, Finn.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 1, 2026 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton. Burial with military honors will follow in Lowcountry Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends beginning at 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm, Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Don may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
