Donna Gilda Sundeen Toye, 85, closed her eyes on earth and woke up in heaven on January 9, 2015 in Hilton Head Regional Hospital, Hilton Head Island SC after a series of illnesses.
Donna was born March 26, 1929 in Cloquet, Minnesota to Bernard Sundeen and Ruth Guilda Sundeen. She graduated from Cloquet High School in 1947 and soon after moved to Plattsburgh, NY where her Mother resided. She had a great job with NY Bell Telephone Company and In 1950 she met and married James E Toye II from New York City. Jim had served in WWII and was using the GI Bill to go to college in Plattsburgh NY. They remained in the area surrounding Plattsburgh throughout their lives.
Donna is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Jolie and Robert Bagonzi of Bluffton SC and son and daughter-in-law James E Toye III and Kim Becker of Atlanta GA. She is also survived by two brothers, Bernard Sundeen, Jr. and Thomas Sundeen of MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband , her sister and brother-in-law Patricia and Donald Langenbrunner and sister Candace Sundeen.
Donna was a beloved mother, wife, sister, daughter and friend. She loved her family deeply and will be dearly missed by all. Donna loved animals, especially cats and dogs and was a champion of the Feral Cat Association. She loved her furry companion Binky and he will miss her.
One of Donna's passions was playing bridge. She was an avid bridge player and played in the Monday Club, the Wednesday Club and often on Friday and Saturday in Plattsburgh NY. She loved to win and did so regularly. Donna was a life-long member of Trinity Episcopal Church and was a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was active in church and school and served as church secretary in the 80's.
A memorial service and celebration of her life will be in April. In lieu of flowers you may send donations in her name to the Feral Cat Association or any animal protection program. Donna's children would like to thank all of Donna's friends who checked on her, called her and loved her.
