Dorothy Domin

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that we announce the passing of Dorothy Elaine Domin, who departed this earthly life on June 28, 2026, at the age of 88. Dorothy was born on May 20, 1938, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Edward and Julia Fischer, when she began a journey marked by faith, family, service, and friendship. A proud graduate of Cleveland Lutheran High School, Dorothy earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Valparaiso University. It was there, amidst shared rides to and from Cleveland, that she got to know her life partner, David Domin. The two were married on June 17, 1961, recently celebrating 65 beautiful years together. Dorothy and David raised three children - her five beloved grandchildren being the lights of her life. Christine Frick (Michael) with Jackson of Fresno, CA; Daniel Domin (Terry) with Leah and Matthew of Beaufort, SC and Northern Virginia; and Kathrine Jackson (Mitch) with Tyler and Sadie of Casselberry, FL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Julia Fischer, her brother, William Fischer, and her close sisters-in-law, Carol Schneider and Harriet Rathje. Dorothy and David enjoyed traveling to see kids & grandkids. They also found time to experience travels to Alaska, Germany, and Greece. Two weeks ago, Dorothy was thrilled with the engagement of Matthew and Courtney, the first among her grandkids to come to this stage of life.

In addition to family, Dorothy enjoyed being involved in her church. She and David were long-time members at Royal Redeemer Lutheran Church in North Royalton, Ohio, where she nurtured close friendships, participated in Bible studies, and served on the Dorcus Guild. She used her organizational skills in the church office and was active with the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML). Dorothy loved quiet time, as well as welcoming visitors into their home. Her hands were always busy with knitting and crocheting, crafting beautiful afghans and winter scarves for her family, as well as preemie hats and prayer shawls for those in need. Dorothy spent time reading, cooking and baking, often filling their home with wonderful aromas and delicious meals. She was a fervent fan of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Indians, rarely missing games on TV. Her passion for her hometown teams was unwavering even after relocating.

After Dorothy and David’s big move out of their home state in 2021, she always missed northeast Ohio’s familiar patterns of life and her favorite places and people there. Her faith remained a source of comfort and security whenever changes were out of her control or when pain slowed down the pace of life. She left this world surrounded by the love of her family, ready to be with God in heaven..

As we say farewell to Dorothy Elaine Domin, we treasure the special moments when we shared her love as our wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, or friend. We ask God to comfort us when this loss feels heavy… at the same time praising Him for working in and through Dorothy’s long life. God is good!

Dorothy's resurrection will be celebrated on July 7, 2026, at Island Lutheran Church, located at 4400 Main St., Hilton Head Island, SC. Visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., followed by a service of praise at 10:45. She will be buried at Beaufort National Cemetery.
