Dorothy Bernice Irvin was born on December 21, 1922 to James and Beatrice Wolfe in Asbury Park, New Jersey. She later moved to Harlem, New York where she lived throughout her childhood. She was a graduate of St. Andrews boarding school in Virginia where she captained the field hockey team and Morgan State College in Maryland.
In 1946 she went home for a visit with her college roommate from Morgan State and was introduced to Milton Irvin. In 1948 Dorothy Wolfe from Strivers Row in Harlem married Milton Irvin, a sharecropper's son. The Irvin's raised their three children: Milton, Michele, and Michael in East Orange, New Jersey. They retired in 1982, first to Daytona Beach then Palm Coast, Florida. For the last two years Dorothy lived between her children's homes in Bluffton S.C. and Conyers, GA.
Dorothy was a true sophisticate, full of grace, style and flair. She frequented the theatre regularly and was an avid bridge player. She loved to shop and return. Dorothy could have hosted Access Hollywood as an aficionado of entertainers in the news, current events and juicy political stories. Dorothy and Milton were also founding members of "Club We," 12 couples who traveled the world extensively.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Milton; two brothers, James and Warren Wolf; and her sister Dolores Brown.
She was the loving wife of 62 years of the late Milton Irvin; cherished mother of Milton (Melody), Michael, and Michele (Billy) Lewis. An adored grandmother of seven grandchildren Brandon, Jason, Viola, Kesi, Bryce, Billye and Joshua and great-granddaughter, Athena. She is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
