Dorothy H. "Dodie" McCulloch, wife of Stephen J. McCulloch, died peacefully on August 10th at Emeritus Palm Court on Hilton Head surrounded by family members and friends.
The daughter of the late James and Marian Heenehan, she was born in New Rochelle, NY on July 13, 1936. She graduated from Ursuline School in New Rochelle and Marymount College in Arlington, VA. She and her family formerly resided in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. and moved from Madison, CT to Okatie, S.C. in 2007.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by six children; Stephen (Kathleen) of Ossining, NY, Thomas of Onancock, VA, Christopher of Clinton, CT, Maureen (Michael) Bliss of Poughkeepsie, NY, Kevin of Fairfield, CT and Anne (Ted) Grogan of New Canaan, CT. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Janet Gaits and brothers James Heenehan and David Heenehan. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Dodie's greatest joys in life were her family and her faith. In addition, she enjoyed volunteering to help children both in the public schools and at Montessori School. Dodie was caring and compassionate always offering her help to friends and others.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Church in Bluffton on August 24th at 11:00 am.
The family will always be grateful to the staff and volunteers of Memory Matters who were helpful during her journey with Alzheimer's disease.
