Dorothy R. Smith

Dorothy R. Smith, age 78, of Hardeeville, SC died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Hilton Head Hospital. Mrs. Smith was born on August 5, 1938 in High Point, NC, the daughter of the late James and Emma Walls. She managed Joker Joes and Papa Joes in Hardeeville, SC for 20 years. She was a member of Red Dam Baptist Church and was a life member of the Hardeeville Marine Rescue Squadron. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, James H. Smith; son, Jerry Smith; brothers, Charlie Lee and Tommy Walls; sisters, Irene Davis, Faye Cross, Gracie Tysinger, and Martha Jean Strong. She is survived by her sons, Terry Smith (Shelia) and Michael Smith; brother, Frank Walls; grandchildren, Chelsea Petrie, Britney Smith, Kodi Smith, Chloe Swae-Smith, James Smith, Kenton Smith, Jacey Vanhooser, and Gavin Smith; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Dallas, Paisley, Peyton Marie, Lena Rose, Adaleigh, and Nova. A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Red Dam Baptist Church, Hardeeville, SC. The family will be receiving friends from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow the funeral service in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Smith’s grandsons, Kodi Smith, James Smith, Mitchel Ambrose, Derek Petrie, and Robert Emanuel. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Hardeeville Marine Rescue Squadron.
