Douglas William Boulware, Sr., born May 5, 1942, passed quietly at home on Sunday, March 16, 2014 after a brief fight with cancer with his wife, Cathie by his side. Douglas was the son of the late Joseph P. Boulware, Sr. and Hattie Ann Cooler Boulware. Doug graduated from Bluffton High School in 1960 where he played football, basketball, baseball and ran track, and later attended Armstrong College.
Doug grew up on the Okatie River at Camp St. Mary's and loved the river and enjoyed spending time boating, skiing, fishing, shrimping and crabbing.
Doug worked at Dixie Crystal Sugar Refinery for a number of years and was the owner of D.W. Boulware Construction Company for 20 years. Doug retired from Tilton Construction where he worked as a superintendent building custom homes on Callawassie Island, Spring Island, Old Field Plantation, Palmetto Bluff and Hampton Hall.
Doug is survived by his wife Cathie Cannon Boulware; sons Douglas "Bill" William Boulware, Jr. and wife Kristi, Kent B. Boulware, and Gregory A. Boulware and wife Shelia; stepsons Brent R. Cooler and Brandon M. Cooler and wife Tollie; 6 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Cassidy and Chandler Boulware, McKenzie and Robbie Woodbury, and Bryce Cooler; brothers and sisters Joseph P. "Pinky" Boulware and wife Sharon, Anthony "Tony" Boulware and wife Linda, Louise Jarrell and husband Glen, Anne Walker, Elizabeth Haley and husband Ron, and Michelle Walker; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great-nephews.
A celebration of Doug's life will be held on Thursday March 20, 2014 at 11 AM at Maye River Baptist Church.
