Douglas A. Gottschling, age 79, of Beaufort, South Carolina previously from Girard, Pennsylvania passed away on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 after an extended illness. He was born in Trenton, New Jersey on May 5, 1937 the son of the late Rev. Karl and Juanita (Lehman) Gottschling. He lived in the Girard area most all of his life and was a graduate of Rice Avenue Union High School and after graduation served in the U.S. Navy. He was a fireman for both Lake City and Girard Pennsylvania and was a member of the ambulance crew for over 50 years. He was employed by Parker White Metal (PHB) in Fairview, Pennsylvania for 43 years until his retirement at which time he became a guard at the Girard Incubator. He was also a police officer for both Lake City and Girard for 28 years. He was a member of the Zem Zem Shrine and the Erepa Grotto. He was preceded in death by his first wife Anna (Breining) Gottschling and his brothers Ronald and John Gottschling. Douglas is survived by his wife of 24 years, Diane (McCall) Gottschling, his son Kenneth (Roseann) Gottschling, sister Cheri Karol (George), sister-in-laws Barbara Gottschling and Wanda Gottschling, mother-in-law Dorothy McCall, brother-in-law Allen McCall (Barb), sister-in-laws Peggy Hetz, (Garth) and Jill Connelly (Tom) and step sons Jeff, Brian (Shannon) and Chris Nagel. He is also survived by step grandchildren Chris, Carli and Lexi Nagel and Justin Nagel. No calling hours or services will be observed, per his request.
