Edgar (Ed) Vornsand of Schulenburg, Texas passed away on November 11, 2012 at Hilton Head Hospital, Hilton Head, and South Carolina. At his side was his daughter, Paulette Maehara Henderson and son-in-law, Thomas Henderson. Born in Moravia, Texas in March 1925, to Henry and Louisa Vornsand, Ed attended school in Schulenburg, Texas where he played football, basketball, and track and lettered in all three sports. During the summers, Ed went to the Texas Panhandle to work in the wheat fields where he could make more money. In 1942, while working in Happy, Texas, Ed met Mary Jo Huckabee and they were married in 1944 in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1944, Ed was called to serve his country in the US Army where he rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant. Ed served with the 129th Field Artillery Battalion and was deployed to the South Pacific Theater where he fought in New Guinea, Southern Philippines and Luzon Campaigns earning the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star and the Army of Occupation (Japan) Ribbon Victory and 2 Overseas Service Bars. At the end of the war Ed returned to Texas to begin his oil exploration career with McCollum Oil Exploration Company and started a life with Mary Jo. In 1949, Ed and Mary Jo gave birth to their only child, Paulette. Ed worked for one oil exploration company throughout his entire 39 year career although the company changed ownership and names numerous times over the decades. His career took him and Mary Jo to North Dakota, South Dakota, Montana and Canada and numerous foreign countries including the Middle East and South America. He and Mary Jo returned to their beloved Texas settling in Fort Stockton, then Midland during the oil boom of the 60's and finally to Rosenberg, Texas. Ed loved kids and volunteered as a coach for the Rosenberg Little League baseball League in Rosenberg for many years. He also accompanied his daughter, Paulette and her tennis team to tournaments throughout the Southwest. He loved to hunt and never did a hunting season pass that Ed was not there mostly to enjoy the company of his fellow hunters. He spent a lot of time visiting his daughter in Chevy Chase, Maryland and enjoying his two granddaughters. Everyone that came in contact with Ed found him to be a genuine loving individual whose only job was to make others happy. Ed received his 50 year Membership of the Richmond Council No. 383, Royal and Select Master Mason in March 2008. After 39 years of marriage to Mary Jo, Ed lost her to leukemia in 1983. He retired from his job in the same year and went on to refinish and build furniture, a hobby he truly loved. In 2009, Ed moved back to his home town Schulenburg and resided at the Regency Villas. In 2011, after numerous health issues began to slow him down, Ed moved to the Low Country of South Carolina to be closer to his daughter. He resided at Emeritus Palm Meadow Village on Hilton Head Island and made many friends and continued to charm all those that knew him. He is survived by his daughter, Paulette; son-in-law, Tom Henderson; two granddaughters, Natasha Pualani Maehara, Brisbane Australia and Elizabeth Louisa Maehara, New York; two step granddaughters, Ashley O
