Edward “Pete” Cilli, 77-years-old, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, at Coastal Carolina Hospital. For the past several years, Pete fought major health battles without complaint. Pete is survived by the love of life, Cathy Cilli; his sister, Christine Rose; his daughter, Kate Cilli; son-in-law Oliver Smith; grandchildren Natalie and Aaron Smith; nephews Richard Hennequant, Craig Hennequant, John Petrush, and Josh Petrush; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Known by his grands as “Poppo Pete,” he had a good sense of humor and was often a teaser.
Pete loved his family and enjoyed family gatherings on holidays. Born and raised in Midland, PA, Pete resided in Beaver, PA until relocating to Sun City in Bluffton, SC. Pete spent his youth at the 7Th Street playground in Midland, but he roamed the town on his bicycle. On one such ride, he met Cathy. They married in 1969 and recently marked their 55th wedding anniversary. Pete graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964, where he achieved 9 varsity letters in baseball, basketball, and football. He was a Vietnam War veteran.
Pete enjoyed a happy retirement in Sun City Hilton Head, spending hours at the softball field and winning the 2018 league championship. He was a proud British Open Pub player and coach for many years. He also was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan.
Pete was preceded in death by his mother, Betty Jane Cilli; father, Edward P. Cilli; and brother, Tim Cilli.
There will be no public visitation. Plans for a celebration of life gathering will be forthcoming.
