Edward G. Hirshman

Edward G. Hirshman, 73, of Greenville, SC and formerly of Charleston and Hilton Head Island, SC died Thursday, December 21, 2017 after a short-term illness at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville. Mr. Hirshman was born on July 10, 1944 in Pittsburgh, PA, the son of the late Rita and Jack Hirshman. He was a graduate of Columbia College in Pittsburgh, earning a degree in business. He was a Vietnam War veteran of the United States Marine Corps, earning a Bronze Star for bravery in the Battle of Khesahn. He retired after 22 years of service as a Master Gunnery Sergeant working with the East Coast Recruiting Inspection Team at Parris Island, SC. Following his military tenure he joined the staff of Grace Community Church of Hilton Head Island, SC as a Body Life Elder. He later became the Director of Harvesters International Missions based at Grace Community Church, traveling primarily to the Pokot tribe of Kenya, but also sharing his love for Jesus Christ with the people of Myanmar, India, Pakistan, China, and the Congo. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, enjoyed working outdoors, looked forward to his annual vacation in St. Maarten, but most importantly, he loved being with his family. Mr. Hirshman is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Terry Hirshman; children, Edward G. Hirshman, Jr. (Diana), Heather Hirshman Driver (Brent), and Todd Hirshman (Diana); and grandchildren, Bayne Hirshman, Cooper Hirshman, Maxwell Hirshman, Davis Hirshman, Nicholas Driver, Lillian Driver, Della Driver, Tatum Hirshman, Teagan Hirshman, and Landon Hirshman. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 28, 2017 at Grace Community Church, 450 Spanish Wells Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 with military burial following at Beaufort National Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Harvesters International Missions Organization, c/o Grace Community Church.
