Edward Michael Shurilla

Edward Michael Shurilla, 77 of Bluffton passed away on Monday, January 17, 2011 in the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, Beaufort, SC.He was born in Reading, PA on August 3, 1933. He was the son of the late Michael J. and Emma Ketzel Shurilla.After his honorable discharge from the US Army, he earned a Bachelor Degree in Economics from Albright College. Ed worked in personnel and industrial relations for corporate and private companies in the Reading, PA area. Ed was a Basketball Official, P.I.A.A. (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) in the Reading and Berks County areas. He was also a member of I.A.A.B.O. (International Association of Approved Basketball Officials). Ed retired from basketball officiating after 19 years and was a life member of the Reading and Berks County Basketball Old Timers. He was Post Commander of the Catholic War Veterans. He was a member of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church.He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen D. Shurilla of Bluffton, SC; and Joseph Patrick Shurilla of Reading, PA. He was predeceased by his son, Edward Michael Shurilla Jr. and his brother, Robert A. Shurilla.A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in the Sauls Funeral Home Chapel, 90 Simmonsville Rd., Bluffton, SC.Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton, SC is assisting the family with their arrangements.
