Edward “Ed” Lee Simpson passed into the Lord’s care August 3, 2025. Ed was a fabulous husband to his beloved wife of 34 years, Grace, a wonderful brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great-uncle and friend. He was a proud veteran of the US Navy and was comforted by his deep Catholic faith and his connection with Epiphany Catholic Church in Louisville, KY. Ed received and gave great joy from his lifelong love of music, singing and playing guitar.
Ed was born March 22, 1953 in Louisville, KY to James B & Evelyn H Simpson, who predeceased him.
Ed was a proud alumnus of the University of Louisville Speed Scientific School of Engineering. During his work career, he was an active duty US Naval officer aboard the USS Paul F. Foster; at a contracting office in St. Louis and at the NATO base in Naples, Italy. He continued his Navy career in the reserves, serving 20 years. After receiving his MBA at the University of Louisville, he became a senior contracting assistant for CEXEC in the Washington, D.C. area, assisting the FAA. Upon retirement, he and Grace moved to Bluffton, SC, where he helped family and many friends with their technical needs.
Ed will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Grace, his brother, Tony Simpson (Cindy), sisters-in-law, Loretta Haste, Pat Chastonay (Dick), brother-in-law, Dennis Lynch (Debbie), nieces, Debbie Davis, Donna Sullivan, Abigail Lynch (Eric), Nora Krasowski (Paul), Ashleigh Schmidt (Eric), Annie Lynch, nephews, Kevin Chastonay and Jordan Simpson, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Rd, Bluffton, SC, on Friday, August 8 from 3:00–5:00pm. Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, 31 St. Gregory Dr, Bluffton on Saturday, August 9 at 11:00am. Interment will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
