Edward J. Tiernan

Edward J. Tiernan, age 77, of Bluffton, SC and formerly of northern New Jersey died Sunday, September 25, 2016 at his home. Mr. Tiernan was born on September 3, 1939 in Granger, IA, the son of the late Patrick Joseph Tiernan and Maxine Gertrude Comer Tiernan. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Following his military tenure, he attended Iowa State University where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society. He continued his formal education at Stanford University, earning a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering and ultimately a MSAM from Pace University. He worked within the Bell System for many years, retiring as the Executive Director at Verizon Communications. Post-retirement, he was a Vice President of CORBE, Inc., a nonprofit organization which advocated for the pension and 401k benefits of active employees and retirees of Bellcore/Telcordia Technologies. Edward was an avid golfer and in his recent last game hit a hole-in-one. Mr. Tiernan was preceded in death by his daughter, Annette Tiernan-Brown; sister, Teresa Mockus; and brother, Patrick Tiernan. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Pam Tiernan; daughters, Julie Peck (David) and Lisa Fiorentine; sister, Judy Tiernan; and grandchildren, Tommy (AnnMary), Daniel, Eddie, Zachary, and Bryden. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at Sauls Funeral Home, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
