Effie Gale Simons

Effie Gale (Garrett) Simons, widow of Byron D. Simons, passed away on July 12, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on November 17, 1916 in Mathias, WV to the late L. W. (Bunt) & Katherine (Kate) Garrett. She and Byron were married on January 14, 1937 and they moved to Clarksburg, WV. After retiring from Sears, she moved to Beaufort, SC where she has lived with her daughter & son in law, Ann & Bob Squires for the past 20 years. She is survived by four children, Anna L. Squires and husband Bob of Beaufort, SC; Kay Morrison and husband Bill of Parkersburg, WV; George Simons and wife Carolyn of Clarksburg, WV; and Mabel Franks of Merryville, LA. She is also survived by her sister, Gatha Souder and husband Roland of Mathias, WV. She was the proud Grandmother of 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 2 step great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and 2 step great great grandchildren. There are also 3 generations of nieces and nephews surviving. She was predeceased by her parents and husband; her brothers Howard, Jim and Dave Garrett; her sisters Betty Lou (Garrett) Cochran and Selma Marie Garrett; son in law Bertie G. Franks and grandson Phillip Morrison. She was a member of East View United Bretheran Church, where she was the Youth Sunday School Superintendant for many years and also sang in the choir. Visitation will be at Davis & Weaver Funeral Home in Clarksburg, WV on Thursday, July 18th from 1:00 - 3:00 pm, with services officiated by Rev. Don Maxson in the funeral home chapel at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow at Floral Hills Cemetery. Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton is also assisting the family.
