Egon W. Hasler, 70 of Bluffton, SC died Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Hilton Head Island, SC following a brief hospitalization.
Mr. Hasler was born in Switzerland on May 5, 1943, the son of the late Engelbert Hasler and Philomena Spirig Hasler. He practiced accounting for many years, working primarily for Texaco. He began working with Texaco in West Africa where he stayed over ten years, later being transferred to Vienna Austria and ultimately Rio de Janeiro, where he retired in 1992. After retiring, he operated his own import/export business in Rio de Janeiro with his wife until 1999 at which time he moved to New York State, becoming a naturalized citizen of the United States in 2005. Prior to retiring to Bluffton, SC in 2007 he taught Portuguese and German in New York.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hasler was preceded in death by his sister, Eva Jenny. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Catherine Partridge-Hasler; his daughter, Natascha Held of Austria and her children, Franziska and Benjamin Held; his son, Pascal Hasler of Austria; sisters, Ursula Bernard of Switzerland, Lotti Frischknecht of Switzerland, and Susan Hotz of Spain; godson, Patrick Jenny of Switzerland; sisters-in-law, Nancy Todaro of New York State, Carol Collins of New York State, and Linda Orf of South Carolina.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Sauls Funeral Home of Bluffton, 90 Simmonsville Road, Bluffton, SC 29910.
