Eileen Marie Fischer, 65 years old, was born on September 6, 1957, in Concord, CA and died on December 24, 2022 on Hilton Head Island, SC where she had made her home for the last several years. Living with Metastatic Breast Cancer since 2013, Eileen relentlessly collaborated with her doctors to fight this disease while still maintaining ways to do things she loved, enjoy life, and cherish family, friends, and pets. Eileen’s family moved from California to Illinois in 1966, where she spent the next 39 years of her life, attending grade school, high school, some college, and finally settling with her partner (Jerry Pearson) of 26 years. She worked for 25 years for the Keebler Company (later purchased by Kellogg’s). After the death of her partner, she decided to make some big life changes, and moved to Boca Raton, FL. She took a consulting job and wound up being assigned to a company in San Francisco. She eventually took a permanent job with them (Pacific Gas and Electric), relocated to San Francisco, and has worked for them ever since. On disability since 2013, she decided to move to the Lowcountry to be closer to her parents and a sister.
Eileen's work allowed her to travel the globe. She was well respected by her colleagues and was truly an expert in her field. Eileen took up gardening in the last few years and recently became a Master Gardener. Her gardens were an expression of art, blending flowers and plants in a most exquisite manner. "What's blooming" became her line when doing her usual "therapy" of gardening. Eileen was a lover of art, jewelry, shopping and music. Her home was a showplace that brought all of her likes together in one space. Eileen loved the beach and spent some time navigating the Intracoastal Waterway on her paddleboard. Most dear to Eileen was her family and friends. She will be remembered for her generous love for others, her kind spirit, and most of all her sense of humor, especially when faced with her terminal illness. She was grateful to spend the end of her life visiting with family and friends and loving on her sweet animals Callie, Mia and Boo.
Eileen’s determination, courage, spirit, and humor will be forever cherished by all who knew her. As many have said, she taught us how to live and how to die. A Memorial Service and Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
