Eldon K. Hoxworth

Eldon K. Hoxworth, 97 of Hilton Head Island, SC formerly of Beaver Dam, KY, died Saturday, March 22, at NHC of Bluffton. Born to Roy Hoxworth and Geneva Swigert Hoxworth in London Mills, Illinois, September 30, 1916. Preceded in death by his wife Audra Duvall Hoxworth who died December 12, 2005 after 57 years of marriage. Eldon graduated in 1935 from Galva High School. In 1939 he completed a 2 year training with Caterpillar where he established his trade as a machinist. Eldon was hired by the Navy to repair the ships at Pearl Harbor after they were fired upon. Eldon was a Staff Sargent with the US Army stationed in Germany. After the service, he came to KY where he helped start the Peabody Coal Company. He was a machinist. He met Audra at the Beaver Dam Café and married August 21, 1948. Eldon was a member of the Beaver Dam Baptist Church where he was a Senior Sunday School Teacher and a RA Leader, member of Brotherhood and the church choir. He is also a lifetime member of Gideons International. After retiring, he ran a machine shop at his home where he worked until his late 80s. In 2007 he moved to Hilton Head Island to be closer to his daughter, Cherie, where he lived in Indigo Pines, an independent living facility. Survived by his son Frank, wife Pat and children, Matthew, and Joshua from Terre Haute, Indiana, granddaughter Emily, husband Tim Thompson and great granddaughter Faith Lauren of Brownsburg, Indiana. Daughter Cherie Hoxworth Perigo of Hilton Head Island. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky with burial following at Sundy Side Cemetery in Beaver Dam. A visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 from 4-8pm and on Saturday from 9am until the hour of the service. Any memorial donations may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 140800, Nashville, TN 37214. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at Miller-Schapmire Funeral Home in Beaver Dam, Kentucky with burial following at Sundy Side Cemetery in Beaver Dam. A visitation will be held Friday, March 28, 2014 from 4-8pm and on Saturday from 9am until the hour of the service.
